Above are the new contact email addresses for each year group. These will allow parents to contact their child’s class teacher directly. With this in mind, we would like to clarify the guidelines for what is effective and appropriate in terms of e-mail communication.

The guidelines set out how the above addresses are aimed to help maintain relationships between parents and teachers and support the use of this system for maximum efficiency.

1.Timings

  • Teachers will access their year group emails between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm. Emails received after 4.30pm may not be read or responded to until the following day.
  • All teachers will aim to reply to emails within 24 hours- therefore if your concern is urgent, please speak to the school office to arrange a meeting or phone call with the class teacher.
  • The teachers’ top priority during the school hours is working directly with the children. As such, the classroom environment does not allow teachers to check their e-mails whilst teaching. Therefore most teachers will check and respond to e-mails before and after school, unless they have non-contact time such as PPA.

  • 2.Content of emails
  • Please make sure that the subject of your email clearly states the name of the teacher you are sending it to, e.g. FAO: MRS WELCH. This means that teachers will only open emails addressed to them.
  • Please consider your goal in communicating with the teacher. If your purpose is to share information, or give the teacher time to think about an issue, an e-mail is appropriate. However, if you would like two-way dialogue on a complex issue, e-mail is not appropriate. Please consider a telephone call or request a face-to-face meeting via the school office.
  • Please remember that e-mail is not necessarily confidential. Confidential information should be conveyed by phone or, more appropriately, personal contact. Where necessary emails may be shared with members of the Senior Leadership Team or the Head/Deputy.
  • Emails should be respectful and polite, no matter the issue. If you have a complaint, please arrange to speak to the class teacher or a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Time-sensitive messages, such as unexpected changes to collection/appointment times etc., may not by seen in time by email. Please share this information with the school office, so that it may be shared with teachers before the end of the school day.
  • Should you wish to arrange a meeting with the class teacher- please do this via the school office.

We hope that opening up a teacher email system will add to our already improving home-school communication and look forward to your support with this.
